Keynote Lecture,
"E-Services
and its future impact on Complex Information Systems",
at
the 1st E-Technology and E-environments Conference (ETEC'08),
Sohar University, Sohar, Sultanate of Oman, 15-16
April 2008, [ppt].
Synopsis:
Perhaps,
fuelled by recent advances in web services
technology, service-oriented architecture,
autonomic computing and marketplace grid
computing; many commentators are now postulating
that we are closer than ever before to achieving
the vision of the Internet of Things including the Internet of Services. Such a model is argued that will improve the
way we use, develop and manage our software,
services and infrastructure. Hence, it will
revolutionise our methods and processes for the
development, deployment and management of
large-scale complex software systems as those
required for e-government, e-health systems. However,
the foundations and engineering principles of
e-services is far from being completely
understood, and are under rapid evolution.
Hence, this talk will
focus on the science and technological aspects
relevant to the Internet
of Services vision. The talk will be
introduced by a review of the state-of-the-art
relevant to e-services science and engineering.
This will be followed by a presentation of the
underpinning technologies, and a detailed
description of conceptual frameworks. Real-life
examples from e-government and e-health domain
will be used to illustrate the contents of this
presentation. The talk will conclude with a
discussion on remaining research challenges
relevant to e-services and Internet of Service vision.
