Books

I am currently writing a book provisionally entitled: "Computer Audio: Theory, Tools & Applications" that deals with the background of computer audio (digital audio and MIDI) as well as practical applications of these technologies. It also includes details on how to program audio applications using the freely available Pure Data audio environment.

Outside interests

I'm into Liverpool FC, golf, snooker, 1980s computer games, any kind of electronic / mechanical gadget that performs a mundane task for you, computer games consoles specifically the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Java language and environment. I run Mac OS X, MS Windows, OpenSolaris and Linux.

My musical tastes are pretty eclectic: Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Foo Fighters, Paul Weller, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Nirvana, Lenny Kravitz, U2, Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Roger Waters, Tori Amos, Diana Krall, Kate Bush, Rush, Marillion, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Yes, Gary Moore, etc. etc.

I play a mean piano and guitar and can sometimes be found playing songs from the repertoire of many of the above artists with my band, SNAKEHOUSE, in a number of bars and dives in the Liverpool area.

Claim to fame

My (sadly now defunct) band, The Stepping Stones, once supported popular scouse "beat-combo" Space at the Lomax, Liverpool. We also appeared on a compilation album for the Anti-Nazi League ("Never Again" on Nil Satis Records) with other great pop 'legends' such as The Shamen, Sham 69 and the Proclaimers and got to play live with them at London's Legendary Marquee Club in Soho.

Other stuff

Here are a few of the things that I can't live without...

Software that makes my life easy...

Other notable items: Skype, Protege, FreeMind, JEdit
